Band member Jaleh Daie, a trailblazing leader and visionary, was a featured speaker for the TiE Global Summit 2023 in partnership with the Singapore FinTech Festival in Singapore. She shared her wealth of knowledge and unique perspectives on entrepreneurship and innovations in the area of ESG and specifically solving for hunger. Dr. Daie is a noted biologist and a true luminary in the world of entrepreneurship, innovation, and global business. She is the Managing Partner at Aurora Equity, and Founder & Chair, AgFood Tech at the Band of Angels. After becoming the first woman to serve on the Board of Directors at the U.S. Space Foundation, she was inducted into the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame in 1996, and has served the administrations of three US Presidents.
Summer Party
We had a lovely Summer Party on August 24th . About a hundred and twenty of us enjoyed the great company, delicious food, and excellent wine. It was a gorgeous event in every regard,
2023 Hans Severiens Award Winner is Tony Shipley
Congratulations to Tony Shipley for receiving the 2023 Hans Severiens Award. Named after the founder of Band of Angels, this annual award presented by the Angel Capital Association (ACA) is honoring individuals who advance angel investing. Tony is an ACA Board of Directors Member, Seed the Future Campaign Chair and Chairman and Co-Founder of Queen City Angels.
Portfolio Day
The quality of the Band was on vivid display in the lineup at our 12th Portfolio Day. On March 30th we heard updates from nine portfolio companies: CarIQ (October 2017 Dinner and July 2018 Second Look); Earth Grid (July 2022 Dinner); Kango (May 2017 Dinner and May 2018 Second Look); Loopie (September 2021 Dinner and October 2022 Second Look); Open Sesame (April 2022 Dinner); Peanut Robotics (August 2021 Dinner); RAM Medical (March 2018 Dinner); Resonado (May 2019 Dinner); and Beyond 4 formerly Your Fare (April 2017 Dinner and July 2019 Second Look). The Band has played a critical role for these companies, and I was proud of their depth and progress. Big thanks to Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati for hosting us.
Portfolio News: Seal Rock Therapeutics Secures a $547,000 grant
Congratulations to Band portfolio company Seal Rock Therapeutics for securing a $547,000 grant from the U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity (USAMRAA) to support preclinical evaluation of Seal Rock’s ASK1 inhibitor, SRT-055, as a potential development candidate for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). https://lnkd.in/g77kV8q2
