Virgil Aguirre
Virgil Aguirre is a successful operations business leader. He currently serves as the VP of Mfg Operations at Shockwave Medical. Virgil has served in the medical device industry for over 30 years at multiple growing companies throughout his career. He started at Shockwave in 2022 when the revenue went from the high $400M to current revenue of $930M. He leads the team to an outstanding gross margin of over 87% while launching 2 new products every year. Virgil’s career started in 1992 at Webster Laboratories, Inc (Electrophysiology), which merged to become Cordis-Webster, then acquired to become known as Biosense-Webster, (BWI). Virgil developed his skills improving patient care in his first 12 years while in R&D working closely with founder and mentor Wilton Webster. He helped provide electrophysiology catheters to a growing Asia Pacific market by responding to the market needs, listening to physicians and developing smaller anatomy catheters for the Asian region. During this time, he also provided his leadership and knowledge supporting a few due diligence opportunities for M&A’s. Virgil moved over to Operations at BWI to provide his knowledgeable background to a growing manufacturing business. He stayed at BWI for 24 years before moving on to Edwards Lifesciences to help launch the Inspirus Resilia platform at multiple sites around the world. Virgil continued his success and growth by joining Endologix, a company in the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm space as the VP of Operations where he oversaw two sites in CA. Through an acquisition, Virgil was also responsible for the PQ Bypass business where he strategically helped provide direction in Mfg and Supply Chain. Virgil earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Pepperdine University, Graziadio Business School. He is also a skilled certified Tool and Die Machinist. Virgil currently lives in San Jose, CA with his wife, Sandra and has three grown children all living in Southern CA. Now looking for his next venture to continue future growth!
